Baltmane & Bitans Law office announce the new name
The Law Offices Baltmane un Bitāns became a full member of the law firm Eversheds (United Kingdom) this April. Eversheds is one of the world’s leading law firms; the name of the Law Offices Baltmane un Bitāns is now Eversheds Bitāns.
This cooperation was concluded because Eversheds sees a growing demand for consultancy in Eastern Europe. Eversheds Bitāns is represented on the international Eversheds Board and it will be entitled to vote for decisions of importance to the company.
In regard to our work with customers this cooperation will open up new opportunities, for instance, in relation to use of more advanced IT systems in providing legal assistance, also wider possibilities of acquiring information on foreign experiences and possibilities to receive quality legal assistance outside Latvia, even in highly exotic but prospective places all over the world.
The general partner Agris Bitāns, of the Law Offices Eversheds Bitāns, when commenting on becoming the full member of Eversheds, says that this means operation at new quality for the firm.
“This is an acknowledgement for our firm; and the assessment that legal assistance provided by us matches the international attorney practices. We have worked together with Eversheds both within framework of international customer projects and also in various Latvian projects. Cooperation provides for new opportunities in the international environment and also offers new possibilities for our employees and customers,” Agris Bitāns considers.
Prior to becoming Eversheds Bitāns, the Law Offices Baltmane un Bitāns concluded a cooperation agreement with Eversheds in May last year, while the cooperation with Eversheds had been continuing for four years already. Remembering former cooperation, Agris Bitāns recalls: “First we collaborated in some joint projects. Later the contacts became tighter. We studied each other’s philosophy of reasoning and legal operation and understood that we were thinking alike. At the end of 2006 an opinion was voiced on the possibility of closer collaboration. After a year of joint work Eversheds became more closely acquainted with our firm, not only in the aspect of law, but also in relation to training and other fields and at the beginning of 2008 they made the offer for us to become a full-fledged member of Eversheds.”
Two other law firms from Estonia and Lithuania have also become members of Eversheds – Ots & Co and Saladžius & Partners, with whom Eversheds Bitāns is cooperating successfully. In the European context, cooperation among Eversheds offices is organised at various levels, for example, between the Baltic and Scandinavian offices, the Eastern and Central European offices. Eversheds has established serious cooperation in three directions in the world – in Asia, for instance, in China and Japan, in Middle East – Arab Emirates, and in Africa.
